By Jarissa Aquinde, Positively Woof Rescue and Adoption Story EditorIt all started with a picture on Petfinder. I saw Bear’s shy little face and I could not get him out of my mind.
I have always been a dog lover. I grew up with dogs in my family, and sometimes for fun I would search for adoptable dogs in my area on Petfinder.com. I am 22, a recent college graduate, living at home, and didn’t really think too much before immediately filling out an application for Bear. It was definitely a rushed decision and I wasn’t even sure I would get approved because of my age.
A miracle happened and I received an email from Southern Ohio Animal Rescue that I was approved to adopt Bear! I was over the moon. I was adopting my first dog, and on July 2nd, 2017, I was set to pick up my new baby boy. This was the day after my family got home from our beach vacation, and it ultimately turned into two dogs being adopted.
Bear had a brother that was available, and my older sister and her husband had been talking about adopting a dog for their two little boys. My sister decided on our vacation to apply for Dublin (formerly Darryl), who we were informed had a pending adoption. Then, another miracle happened and she was approved. The rescue was so excited that the brothers were going to be in the same family — I think it swayed their decision. And how lucky are we that it did!
Five months later and these mutts have been a blessing to our lives. My nephews are in love with Dublin, and Bear has become the center of my world. They see each other regularly, and it is so special to observe the bond that they have as brothers.
