Back in 2013, Louie the long haired dachshund was surrendered to the government pound in Taiwan. His original owner owned a noodle stand and he felt that having a dog took too much of his time. Thankfully, there are hundreds of rescuers in Taiwan due to the high numbers of street dogs and dogs in the pounds.
At this time, Jenny was a foster for a rescue group called CERA Dog Society and had fostered many, many dogs before. Louie was supposed to be just another one of her fosters waiting for a forever home. Louie finally flew over from Taiwan in November, 2013 . This was the first time Jenny had ever fostered a dachshund! He was incredibly cute and was adopted very quickly to a family in Victoria, BC. Jenny actually only fostered him for a week, which was the shortest foster she had ever had. After a month or so, Jenny received a called from the family who had adopted Louie saying they had decided to return him! It turns out that Louie’s skin was very bad and he started to lose hair. The owners couldn’t find out what the problem was and said they had spent hundred of dollars in vets bills and couldn’t afford to spend any more. Jenny was so heart broken to see a rescue dog return because she knows it is so hard on the dogs to move from family to family.
So, without even thinking, Jenny took Louie back in because she was hoping he would still remember her, even after just a week of fostering. Turns out that he did! After that, Jenny brought him to the vet and got some advice from other foster families about his condition. Turns out, Louie was allergic to the food he was eating before and he just had to change his diet to get better. After his recovery, Jenny and Louie were basically inseparable and she couldn’t imagine adopting him out to another family again. Jenny always thought that maybe it was fate that brought Louie back to her home and that it was her responsibility to take care of him for the rest of his life!
