Dog Rescue Stories: Laz and Lennox are Best Friends!

Jena and her then boyfriend (now fiancee)  wanted to adopt a dog for a long time, but thought they should wait until they moved in together. The day after they did, they went to PAWS Chicago to look for a dog. After looking around for a while, they weren’t sure they had found “the one”. They decided to do one more lap and saw a pup named Mickey (which is Jena’s fiancee’s name!) who was on a walk earlier, so they had missed him. Jena and Micky (human) met Mickey (rescue dog), fell in love, and changed his name to Laz (as they couldn’t have two Mickeys in the house)! Laz found his forever home Memorial Day weekend, 2013 (which is also Jena’s birthday weekend…the perfect present)!

Since then, Jena has been volunteering at PAWS and is also on their professional board. She wanted to celebrate Laz’s one-year adoptaversary by volunteering (Memorial Day weekend, 2014) and that’s when she met Lennox, a deaf, white boxer who had been at PAWS for about a week or so. Jena convinced Micky to let them foster him. Jena and Micky had Lennox for a month and decided to adopt him! Now, Laz and Lennox are best friends (as evidenced by their Instagram posts). They love to wrestle, chase each other and bask in the sun…and pretend like they don’t enjoy having their photo taken all the time!

We were lucky enough to find our forever home through @pawschicago who pulled us both (although a year apart) from Chicago Animal Care & Control. There are still so many dogs in Chicago looking for their forever home…or even just a foster home! Our mom started @fosterdogsofchicago to help find homeless dogs in the Chicago area a temporary place to live until they find their forever home. Lennox was a failed foster so he knows the importance of fostering ???? Fostering helps save so many lives! It’s especially important right now as there are still MANY dogs who have CIV (AKA the dog flu, which we both had last year and it sucked for a few weeks but we got through it!) who need an isolation foster (no other pets in the home).
