Dog Rescue Stories: Malibu Stole Her Forever Mom’s Heart!

Malibu Featured

Malibu was an owner surrender on Jan 1, 2015 to San Bernardino Animal Shelter, a high kill shelter. The volunteers at the shelter said that she was pregnant and if she wasn’t rescued by January 8th, she would be at risk to be euthanized. On Jan 10th, Malibu got her freedom day! The woman who originally said that she would foster Malibu backed out at the last minute after finding out she was not pregnant, so Malibu went into boarding.  At least she was out of the shelter!Malibu 1

Christine was a rescue volunteer walking dogs in boarding, so when she found out that Malibu was being boarded near her home, she volunteered with the rescue to walk her weekly. A few months went by and the rescue that originally helped save Malibu abandoned her at the boarding facility, along with 9 other dogs at different boarding facilities. The rescue has since disappeared.

Malibu 4Christine continued to walk Malibu for 6 months, rain or shine, until she was able to find another rescue to take her under their wing. At this point, Christine was still trying to find someone to adopt her, so she posted Malibu’s information everywhere, hoping that a loving family would see her.  When the boarding facility said they couldn’t keep Malibu anymore and threatened to send her back to the San Bernadino Animal Shelter, Christine decided to foster her through Chews Life Dog Rescue. Christine knew from day one that Malibu was already home, and on July 1, 2015, made it official!

Malibu and Christine, unfortunately, have to deal with breed discrimination daily and they do their best to show people how wrong they are.  Malibu is an amazing pit bull ambassador, and her mom is an amazing pit bull advocate!

???????? We went on a walk with our beautiful friend Leia today. She was saved from OC Shelter back in March after being the second longest resident there. She is still looking for her FOREVER home and is just amazing. ???? Malibu, who is sometimes fearful of other dogs hit it off with her from the moment she met her. Leia gets along with other dogs, kids and even kitties! She loves sunbathing, cuddles and is nicknamed hungry hippo for her love of treats. She is 4 years old, spayed, microchipped, and UTD on vaccines. ???? Happy 240th birthday America! ???????? We celebrate our independence today and every day! Have a great day friends! Fun fact: The Fourth of July was originally celebrated with a lot of greenery instead of red, white and blue. ???? Such colors weren’t widely available for decoration in the shadow of the nation’s birth, especially in the heat of battle during the Revolutionary War. The first few Independence Day celebrations used greenery as decorations instead. They also fired artillery used in battles following the completion of the war for the Fourth of July, but the practice dissipated as the cannons fell apart over time and were slowly replaced with fireworks. #independanceday #thankful #freedom #usa #thankyoutroops #241st #letfreedomring #4thofjuly #starsandstripes #america #patriotic #pitbulllove #adoptdontshop #rescue
