In August 2016, Porscha’s (now) forever parents were looking around for a new little, furry edition to their family. They searched long and hard, never really finding “the right one.” They had the feeling that when they found him or her, they would know. Two months had passed and Porscha’s mom happened to see an ad posted by a breeder that lived four hours away from them. They were advertising “Purebred Blue American Staffy pups.” Over the next few days, Porscha’s mom had watched many of the pups be rapidly sold to their new homes. As she had been instantly drawn to a photo of “Porscha,” she had the breeder keep her informed on the availability of the pups.

More time had passed, and she had noticed that nobody was buying Porscha, or even showing interest in doing so. She then questioned the breeder of her situation, wondering why such a sweet little thing had not found a furever home by now. The breeder had replied that nobody had shown interest in her because of her differences and said that “Porscha is not show quality, as her top and bottom jaw do not line up properly”. Basically explaining that she had an overbite.

However, Porscha’s parents found out that that was not the only reason that she was not “show quality”. They found out that Porscha had been picked on and bitten by her sisters because she was different. Porscha’s parents then became concerned abut what kind of future Porscha would have, if not rescued by the right owners. They arranged to go meet Porscha, and had made the four hour trip on October 2nd. They had no doubt in their minds that if all goes well, they were planning on bringing her home.

When Porscha’s parents arrived, they got to meet the very unique and irreplaceable Porscha. When they got to spend some time with her, they noticed that she had quite a lot of bite marks around her neck and on her ears, face and nose, and scars indicated that this had been going on for a while. They appeared to be much more than just “puppy playing bites.” These were very aggressive, sore, red, bite marks. As they watched the way Porscha interacted with her sisters, it was apparent that she didn’t really interact at all. Porscha had separated herself, wanting to go off on her own and kind of got the message that her sisters were isolating and neglecting her. She seemed happy by herself, while her sisters would stick together and be constantly playing gently with each other.

Reluctantly, Porscha’s parents gave the breeder the money, jumped in the car and headed for home. They wanted to get her out of there as quickly as possible. What sore of life would she have if they left her there? Would she have been abandoned? Would she have been seriously injured by her siblings and possibly be hospitalized at the vet a few days/weeks later? Would she have been bought by owners who would decided later that they don’t like her because she was different and get rid of her, or dump her at the nearest rspca or shelter? The possibilities were endless and scary. All Porscha’s parents know is that they are so thankful that they found her and are able to give her the best life possible. She’s finally getting all the love she deserved from the start.
