Skip is an 8 year old hound mix who, although he has a past of abuse and neglect, continues to be one of the happiest dogs his furever mom, Esther, has ever met. In 2013, Skip was shot twice in his back, left leg and then dumped at a rural shelter. The shelter was over crowded and underfunded, so Skip spent 3 years outside without treatment to his wounds and lost most of his hair due to exposure to the elements. He also has a BB pellet in his front shoulder, is missing half of his tail and one front toe. In January 2016, he was rescued by Tails of Hope
when the shelter was shut down as a hoarding case.
In June 2016, Esther and her husband went on a search to find a second dog to keep the company of their other older rescue dog, Lola. Lola has a lot of anxiety and they knew she would need a calm friend to spend her days with. They emailed local shelters inquiring about older dogs with a sweet temperament. They were clear that they didn’t care how old the dog was or what they looked like.
On June 26, 2016, their lives were changed when they met Skip. Esther and her husband immediately knew he was meant to be theirs and he went to his forever home the next day. One week after his adoption, Skip had his back left leg amputated and has been on the road to recovery ever since. He amazes his furever mom every day with his sweet smile, gentle dog kisses and his ability to love unconditionally. ‘Rescued’
really is the sweetest, greatest breed of them all ❤
The mission of Skip and Lola’s Instagram is to show others that senior dogs and dogs with disabilities still have SO
much love to give. Esther and her husband hope the silly photos of their two goober dogs bring a smile to peoples’ faces and that maybe, they too, will be inspired to go find themselves their very own Skip or Lola at their local shelter.
