Dog Rescue Stories: Trigger, Squirt, Coca and Milo Found the Perfect Forever Home!

By Jarissa Aquinde, Positively Woof Rescue and Adoption Story Editor

“After our old dog died, we wanted a Jack Russell Terrier and couldn’t find one that stole our hearts, so we adopted Trigger, a Rat Terrier. He was supposed to be our daughter’s, and while she paid half of his adoption fee, he bonded with me. My husband brought home a German Shepard that was four months old right before we got Trigger, and they became best friends.

We weren’t planning on getting another dog, but while our daughter was driving out to her boyfriend’s, she saw a little Chihuahua run across the road. She brought him home and we reported it to the local animal shelter, put him on Facebook, and on Craigslist. After a week and still nothing, we finally asked a coworker that lived in that area if she knew anybody missing a brown Chihuahua and we finally found the owners. In exchange for his return, they gave us one of their puppies – Squirt. Squirt bonded so much with our older daughter that our younger daughter (who was supposed to be Trigger’s mom) decided that she also needed a Chihuahua. So, we went to the Douglas Animal Shelter and found Coca. We were third on the adoption list and didn’t think we were going to get her, but it was meant to be! She’s the sweetest little dog and bonded with our youngest daughter.

Then, at five years old, our German Shepherd started having separation anxiety when I started working full time, so he went to live with my in-laws that have a female German Shepherd. We were down to three pups. Again, we weren’t looking for another dog until we saw a one eyed Jack Russell Terrier at Douglas Animal Shelter. I have a lazy eye and it just seemed to be the perfect fit! We gave him his forever home and named him Milo. It was a rough first year with him and his high energy (he escaped a few times by jumping the fence) but now he fits right in. Trigger and Milo are the best of friends. Now, we have two Terriers and two Chihuahuas and can’t imagine life without them!
