My fiancé and I had just bought our first home in July of this year. Getting a dog was one of the first things we wanted to do. He wanted a pure bred German Shepard puppy, but I just wanted a snuggle buddy! One day on a break from work I saw the cutest little dog face on my Facebook newsfeed. It was a post about an adoptable dog from Lighthouse Animal Shelter, and that adoptable dog was Woody!
I quickly asked my fiancé if we could go meet Woody that night, and he agreed! Woody was in a large kennel alone, due to him playing with a bigger dog and getting injured. I was so nervous he wouldn’t interact with us, but he went right up to my fiancé and sat by his legs! It was love at first sight. We got to meet other dogs at the shelter, but our hearts were on Woody…or “Woodrow,” as the volunteers lovingly called him.
We filled out our reference sheets and thought about what it would be like to be chosen to be the ones to take Woody home. We got a call the next day saying we were accepted!!!
Woody has been the greatest decision we ever made. At 10 months old, his previous “owner” dropped him off at a kill shelter in Georgia because he wanted to celebrate the Fourth of July without the responsibility of having a dog. Woodrow has never had an accident inside, he is sweet with other dogs and people. He is just the perfect dog and I cannot believe we are lucky enough to have him. I can’t imagine life without him. Our wonderful Woodrow.
