National Mutt Day: Mixed Breed Day: July 31

While we celebrate all dogs of all breeds and mixed breeds each and every day we love that there is a day set aside to specifically celebrate our mixed breed furry friends!

(Watch video below)

We believe the origin of this day, which started in 2005, is credited to Celebrity Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert and Animal Welfare Advocate, Colleen Paige, (also founder of National Dog Day, National Cat Day, National Puppy Day & more). The day is celebrated in July, on the 31st and on December 2nd.

The point of the day is to “raise awareness of the plight of mixed breed dogs in shelters around the nation, to educate the public about the sea of mixed breed dogs that desperately await new homes.”

Mixed breed info:

It’s thought that mixed breed dogs are healthier, happier, better behaved, live longer and can perform the tasks that any pure breed dog can. Mixed breed dogs have been trained in search and rescue, guide dog duties and bomb and drug sniffing tasks.

What can you do to celebrate National Mutt Day?

  1. Visit your local shelter and find a new friend!
  2. If you can’t adopt, make a donation to your local shelter either in the form of items they have on their wish lists or a financial donation.
  3. Volunteer to walk a shelter dog.
