Pet Calendar: Adopt A Rescue Rabbit
February is Adopt a Bunny/Rabbit month and there is no better “spokes-rabbit” than Speedy the Cheeky House Bunny and his mom, Rachel. As Rachel explains in a recent blog post, “Bunnies are the third most popular pet, but (sadly) approximately 75% of bunnies in shelters and rescues are owner surrenders.” The top reasons for the surrenders, Rachel writes is that the, “family has lost interest in taking care of them or they don’t have the ability to care for them.”
As February is also Responsible Pet Owner Month, the message that Rachel, and Speedy, share is important for anyone who wants to bring a bunny into their family. Rachel also reports that bunnies adopted around Easter time and often surrendered because the pet parents didn’t know enough about living with a bunny before bringing one home. Remember, a pet is a lifelong commitment.
