Dog Rescue Stories: Gracie – Saved From a Shopping Cart

Gracie - Harbor Hounds

Gracie is a 3 year old Staffordshire bull terrier from Boston, MA. Gracie came into Sara’s life a few years ago unexpectedly. Sara saw a man with a shopping cart full of puppies walking around Boston.  He was trying to sell each puppy for $1,000. He did not care if the puppies went to a good home or not. That day, Sara locked eyes with the small silver pup in the cart.  Sara knew she had to give her a good home.

At the time, Sara only had a few hundred dollars in her wallet. She begged the man to let her take the pup home and told him about rescues in the area that would happily take the rest of the litter, and help find good homes for them. The man declined and Sara felt horrible that she couldn’t take all the puppies home. However, Sara was able to save the silver pup, named her Gracie, and she now is flourishing in her new home and has two doggy brothers and a cat sibling!

Rescuing a dog doesn’t just mean adopting from a shelter…it can happen in many different ways.  Though Sara wasn’t able to take all the puppies home with her, she was able to change the life of one.
