Surfing dogs were the stars of this year’s Rose Parade. Yes, seven dogs surfed atop a parade float sponsored by Lucy Pet.

The idea to build a 75-foot surfing pool with a portable wave-making machine atop a Rose Parade float was the brainchild of Lucy Pet’s innovative founder, Joey Herrick.

Joey created the history-making project to raise awareness for the Lucy Pet Foundation’s spay and neuter programs. Since being founded a mere three years ago, Lucy Pet has served more than 12,000 dogs and cats in their mobile veterinary clinic, under the direction of Chief Veterinary Officer Doc Halligan.

The float, named “Lucy Pet’s Gnarly Crankin’ K-9 Wave Maker,” made Guinness World Record history twice as the Rose Parade’s heaviest float (74 tons) and longest float (126 feet), and was awarded the Rose Parade’s “Extraordinaire Trophy.”

My team and I were honored to raise awareness for the Lucy Pet Foundation. Our two-day campaign of Facebook Live shows, video clips, photos, and facts reached more than 6.5 million people. Positively Woof’s video footage was shown on ABC, ESPN, and others.
